After the heartbreak of losing back-to-back Copa America Finals, on penalties and to Chile, Argentina’s woes went from bad to worse, with news of Lionel Messi’s retirement from the international stage at just 29.

Following the Barcelona man’s decision to call it a day for his country, fellow team-mates Javier Mascherano, Sergio Aguero Lucas Biglia, Ever Banega, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Angel Di María are all following in Messi’s footsteps and focusing on their club careers.

“Christ, mate; I mean, we couldn’t win jack shit with the world’s best player! Therefore, there ain’t no way I’m turning up to play for this shower of shite without Lionel.”

Sergio Aguero

With so many influential members leaving, the Argentinian FA have opted to call time on the international team all together.

“We are currently looking at the possibility of entering a 5-a-side team into various tournaments, but 11-a-side is over for us. No more.

“The decision has been hard to make. But the thought of having to play Franco Di Santo as our main striker and look towards him as our talisman wasn’t something we wanted to experience. Therefore, we’ve pulled the plug on our international team and will no longer compete.”
