Chelsea Signs Willian For Four More Years

Chelsea fans can finally exhale; Willian is staying at Stamford Bridge for four more years. After much speculation about a move to China, the club announced that Willian has been resigned through 2020.

Willian was voted Chelsea’s best player of the 2015/2016 season by both players and fans alike. Resigning him was a priority and a coup for Chelsea. Earlier in the year, Guangzhou Evergrande offered Chelsea $73 million for the Brazilian midfielder.

Rumors that Willian would be leaving England for greener Chinese pastures persisted, as Guangzhou Evergrande said they would double Willian’s salary to $584,000 per week.

You can see why they were willing to break the bank on him – he absolutely abuses defenders all over the pitch:

But Willian knows that he’ll have more fun playing with Chelsea in the Premier League than he would in the Chinese Super League.

I’m very happy to sign a new contract with Chelsea. It’s a dream to continue with this club and over the next four years. I will try to help the team win more trophies.

It’s been an amazing time for me since I joined the club three years ago, I’ve won titles and last season I was named Chelsea Player of the Year.

I hope to stay at that level during the coming season and achieve more success.

Besides Eden Hazard, Willian was Chelsea’s only good player last year. Expectations will be high for incoming manager Antonio Conte after Chelsea finished in a disappointing 10th place. Never a dull moment from Conte.

It’s too early to say how Chelsea will fare this year, but resigning Willian is a strong first step towards a top 4 finish.

You’re Willian. They offer to double your salary. Are you taking the money and going to China?
