Manchester United Break Record With $121 Million Paul Pogba Deal

Manchester United has done it. They’ve signed Paul Pogba from Juventus for a record-breaking $121 million. This deal makes Pogba the most expensive player of all time, surpassing Real Madrid’s $110 million acquisition of Gareth Bale from Tottenham in 2013.

The 23-year-old French midfielder has been linked to just about every major club on the planet, but it appears that Manchester United have finally landed him.

Executives from Manchester United met with representatives from Juventus Wednesday to iron out the details, but it’s understood that Pogba’s contract is worth $14.3 million per year for five years. Not including the $121 million Manchester United paid to get him from Juventus.

Paul Pogba is manager Jose Mourinho’s fourth major signing since arriving as manager earlier this year, rounding out a list that includes Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Eric Bailly, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Frankly, I don’t see Pogba being worth $121 million. Yes, he is a tremendous talent. But for $121 million, I want someone who will change the game – not someone who might disappear for an entire half.

The Premier League’s new TV deal has further inflated an already ridiculous transfer market. Between that and the rise of the billionaire owner, I don’t know who’s worth what anymore.

I do know that Manchester United has added a phenomenal player to their roster, even if it cost them an arm and a leg. And hey, it’s not Mourinho’s money, so spend away, bud. Just make sure you bring home a couple of trophies at the end of the year.

Will Manchester United win the Premier League this season?
