Wenger rejected £45million Lewandowski to try and sign Vardy

If you see an Arsenal fan out and about, please can you be sure to give them the number to the Good Samaritans? Because, after reading this, they’ll definitely need it.

As usual, the Gooners have to watch their rivals Manchester City, Man United and Chelsea have fun in the transfer market like a kid at Christmas going through the Argos catalogue. They’ve now got to stomach the fact that their gaffer, Arsene Wenger, decided to push for Jamie Vardy back in June, despite being offered Robert Lewandowski.

Wenger is believed to have felt that the Foxes striker would lead England to glory at Euro 2016, and then reinvigorate Arsenal’s front line upon his return. And that is why Le Professeur rejected Lewandowski when Bayern Munich offered the Pole to the Gunners for £45million, an absolute steal given the transfer market prices nowadays.

The Arsenal gaffer, who has revealed he came close to signing the former Borussia Dortmund when he was just three weeks old, felt that Lewandowski didn’t offer too much of a different option to what he already has at his disposal in Yaya Sanogo and Olivier Giroud.

Wenger does appreciate that this news will infuriate an already highly worked up Arsenal fanbase. Therefore, the 66-year-old is currently considering announcing Granit Xhaka again or bidding less than their first bid for Lacazette in order to appease the irate masses.
