26 Nigerians Fail Age Test

Nigeria’s chances of winning the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations took a big hit when 26 of their 60 their national team players failed a mandatory MRI screening before a home qualifier against Niger. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) just moved last week to have an independent doctor administer MRI scans to various countries in an effort to combat age cheats.

According to a team official, only two members of the starting XI remain.

It is a disaster.

Virtually the [entire] first team the coaches have been working on have been disqualified. It’s a serious problem.

Bone age tests are usually conducted by taking a single x-ray of the left wrist, hand, and fingers because that allows many bones to be compared while exposing the patient to a relatively small amount of radiation.

It’s worth noting Nigeria has won the FIFA U-17 World Cup record five times in 1985, 1993, 2007, 2013, and 2015.

Here are highlights from Nigeria vs. Mexico from the 2015 World Cup. Hell of a game (especially the solo goal by Mexico’s number 2) but are these players actually under 17?
