Klopp could’ve harmed his bond with the Liverpool fans after these comments

Liverpool were bloody brilliant in turning over relegation-threatened, Leicester City. The Merseyside club totally dismantled the Premier League champions, leading to their fans – rightly so – chanting Jurgen Klopp’s name around Anfield.

You can’t blame the Liverpool fans, as their manager has installed an incredibly exciting brand of football, which oversees high-pressing tactics in the gegenpressing, and endless creativity in going forward.

That being said, for all of the Reds positive stats, and impressive victories over the Foxes and the Gunners, the Liverpool boss is really not happy with the Anfield faithful in singing the his name during matches.

“I have to say, because I don’t know how else I can say this, please don’t sing my name before the game is decided!

”Immediately when the Kop started signing ‘Jurgen Klopp la la la’ they were clear on Simon Mignolet… it’s like celebrating a penalty before you have scored!”

Jurgen Klopp

To be fair to the gaffer, I’d try everything in the book to ensure a side were as far away as possible from Simon Mignolet.

Still, regardless of Mignolet’s incompetencies, the comments from the Liverpool boss seem very strange. We get the fact that Klopp is a perfectionist, who does not leave anything to chance. The German is a realist, typified by the comments on winning a penalty

But, the suggestion that he does not enjoy being placed on a pedestal, and criticising the fans for paying him such a compliment could do some potential damage to the affection the Reds fans show the manager.

In a day where football fans can be incredibly unforgiving, along with clubs respective hierarchies – who won’t hesitate in making a manger change at the flick-of-a-switch – it seems that gaffers should embrace such gestures from fans at any given opportunity…and being 3-1 up against the Premier League holders, was just that.

Such remarks criticising the crowd, could therefore have negative consequences, if Liverpool are to replicate performances away at Burnley – this could see fans less forgiving to their manager than what they portrayed after that 2-0 defeat earlier in the season.

We’re sure the comments won’t harm the bond shared between the manager and the Reds fans in the short-term, too much. However, it still could come back to bite the German, if results start to falter, and James Milner and Lucas gets found out in defence.
