Lexi Thompson replicates Muhammad Ali’s iconic photoshoot

Today Lexi Thompson recreated one of the most iconic portraits in all of sports. For Muhammad Ali’s birthday, Thompson posed for several pictures…underwater.

The photos revamp a 1961 photoshoot of Ali, featured in LIFE magazine. Regarding the photoshoot, Thompson said this:

“I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to pay tribute to the legend with these photos and put my own golf twist to it too. As an athlete, I always admired Ali’s pure grit and determination in the ring. As an individual, he always kept everyone on their toes.”

So without further adieu, here are the pics you’ve been waiting for.

Honestly though the golf balls are my favorite part of the picture. No rhyme or reason for that, I just think they add some flair to the picture. Miami photographer Al Bello worked in conjunction with Red Bull to produce the superbly cool pictures. Here are the rest of the pics which are just as cool.

I just have one final thought. Were the pictures actually taken underwater? If so, Lexi Thompson is the calmest person underwater ever.
