The winner of MLS MVP award has (kind of) been announced…

On Tuesday, the MLS announced that the three finalists for each of their end of year awards. Who deserves it the most from the nominations?

Now before we get started, let’s discuss the elephant in the room. Yes there are several players insanely cut from these three-man lists; Sebastian Giovinco is not up for the MVP? Seriously?

Did MLS not read my recent article on him? Toronto will be pissed – and take it out on NYCFC this weekend in the playoffs. We will just leave this right here…

Regardless the lists are what they are, but who deserves to win?

Defender of the Year

Nominations: Matt Hedges (Dallas), Axel Sjoberg (Colorado), Jelle Van Damme (LA)

Winner: Axel Sjoberg – The man whom no one can correctly pronounce his last name. The big Swede beats out the big Belgian. Wait what happen to all those talented young America center backs?

Goalkeeper of the Year

Nominations: Andre Blake (Philadelphia), Tim Howard (Colorado), Luis Robles (RBNY)

Winner: Luis Robles – Blake is a beast and has a super high ceiling. However, Robles has been underappreciated for years now in the MLS, helping build the Red Bulls into a consistent title challenger.

Newcomer of the Year

Nominations: Ola Kamara (Columbus), Nicolas Lodeiro (Seattle), Jelle Van Damme (LA)

Winner: Nicolas Lodeiro – No offense, but this isn’t even close. Before he arrived Seattle were dead. Sunday night they just spanked the best team in the regular season 3-0.

Rookie of the Year

Nominations: Jack Harrison (NYC), Jordan Morris (Philadelphia), Keegan Rosenberry (Philadelphia)

Winner: Jordan Morris – Super difficult, as well three have angles on deserving this. But Morris had to lead the Seattle line all year, as a rookie, when Obafemi Martins left and Dempsey was out. Seattle and the USMNT are better for it. I mean, his Twitter handle is JmoSmooth.

Coach of the Year

Nominations: Pablo Mastroeni (Colorado), Oscar Pareja (Dallas), Patrick Vieira (NYC)

Winner: Pablo Mastroeni – While Vieira did revive a lackluster NYCFC, Mastroeni just took the horrible Rapids and made them legit title contenders. Congrats Pablo.

Most Valuable Player (aka the Landon Donovan Award)

Nominations: David Villa (NYC), Sacha Kljestan (Red Bulls), Bradley Wright-Phillips (Red Bulls)

Winner: Sacha Kljestan – Is New York soccer city USA now? Sacha deserves this for his assists, his goals, leadership and improving a team that had just lost Thierry Henry.

Those are my votes, now let’s hear your opinions! Who deserves these awards? Let us know in the comment section.
