Fnatic’s Rasmus “Caps” Winther has excelled in the mid lane during the EU LCS Summer Split, his dominant performances paving the way for the team’s rise to the top of Group A. Passing judgement on his fellow mid laners, Caps provided a curious assessment of his EU LCS rivals.
It was clear from the opening series of the EU LCS Spring Split that Fnatic’s rookie mid laner was capable of producing moments of brilliance.
Squaring up against the prodigy of 2016, Caps proceeded to steamroll G2 eSports Luka “PerkZ” Perković, solo killing him twice in dramatic fashion to announce himself on the European stage.
Caps has continued to impress in the Summer Split, leading the way for damage dealt as he moves into the role of Fnatic’s primary carry.
Fnatic’s rookie mid laner has basked in the plaudits as EU’s ‘Baby Faker’ and evidently has the self confidence to match the glowing nickname.
Speaking after Fnatic’s convincing victory over H2K-Gaming, Caps provided a power ranking assessment of his mid lane rivals in the EU LCS:
Caps power ranking certainly raised a few eyebrows. Team Vitality’s Erlend “Nukeduck” Våtevik Holm’s remarkably high placing and the Unicorns of Love’s Fabian “Exileh” Schubert low standing were both points of contention.
Here are the results in full, including the Fnatic mid laner’s reaction and justification:
Fnatic Caps EU LCS Mid Lane Power Rankings
"It's always hard to do a ranking, but I just feel like when I play against other mid laners, there isn't any mid laner in particular that stands out right now."
10. MM Cozq
Caps did not provide any comment in his ranking of CozQ, though the Mysterious Monkeys mid laner has evidently done little to impress Caps in his debut EU LCS split.
9. ROC Betsy
An EU LCS veteran, Betsy has been a relatively consistent performer for ROCCAT. His abilities have rarely captured the spotlight however, and Caps does not consider the ROC mid to be a threat despite him having handed Fnatic their only loss of the split so far.
8. NiP Nagne
Former KT Rolster mid laner, Nagne certainly has the pedigree to be higher up the ranking. Perhaps weighed down by his team, Nagne only ranks 8th on Caps' list.
7. UOL Exileh
Caps: "I think right now, over the past couple of weeks, Exileh has had a really rough few weeks. It's weird, the first week he was really showing up, but then as the split starting progressing, he just became worse and worse."
6. SPY Sencux
Sencux is often rated as a mid-tier mid laner and Caps' power ranking does not make an exception that rule.
5. MSF PowerOfEvil
Misfits fans will rightfully feel aggrieved by PowerOfEvil's ranking. The MSF mid laner is arguably enjoying his best ever split since joining the EU LCS, rivalling Caps for his level of game impact.
4. H2K Febiven
Caps' predecessor only makes fourth place on the list, perhaps reflective of the ease with which Fnatic dispatched H2K-Gaming ahead of the power rankings drafting process.
3: G2 PerkZ
Caps: "Last split there was PerkZ who stood out and every time you played him, you could feel it. But right now, he's not really standing out."
2. VIT Nukeduck
"I saw Nukeduck stand out against some of the other mids, so I thought he would be really high.
1. FNC Caps
Caps: "I chose to put myself highest, someone has to be."
