G2 eSports Grab Former Schalke 04 ADC Upset Ahead Of Mid-Season Invitational

One month on from Schalke 04 eSports’ failure to reach the promised lands of the EU LCS, AD Carry Elias “Upset” Lipp has announced his departure from the German challenger team to join reigning regional champions G2 eSports. Upset will join the team as a substitute AD Carry under Jesper “Zven” Svenningsen. The move fulfils G2’s tournament obligation to pitch a six-man roster for the Mid-Season Invitational.

Leaving life in Gelsenkirchen behind him, Upset will travel to Brazil with his new G2 eSports teammates for the group stages of the Mid-Season Invitational, starting on May 10.

The European champions face a tough test in their opening fixture of the tournament, with SK Telecom T1 – the recent LCK Spring Split champions and three-time World Champions – waiting for the EU LCS representatives in Rio de Janeiro. It is not expected that Upset will start ahead of Zven for the fixture.

Despite missing out on promotion to the EU LCS, Elías is undoubtedly a talented AD Carry, currently the top rank in European solo queue. Upset’s performances throughout the Spring Split of the Challenger Series undoubtedly brought him to the attention of G2 eSports. From the AD Carry position, Upset accumulated a 10.6 KDA within just ten games, an impressive statistic for a 17 year old in his first season of competitive play.

Upset’s contract with Schalke 04 eSports expired at the end of April, freeing the young German to pursue other ventures. It is unknown whether the AD Carry will remain on G2 eSports’ books after the Mid-Season Invitational, though he seems to be quickly building rapport with his new teammates.

Though he may not feature at the international tournament, there may well be a bright future ahead for Upset as part of the G2 eSports organisation.
