Darlington Nagbe has been a mainstay for the Portland Timbers and finally made his way into the national team this summer at the Copa America…until he really buggered that up by turning down a call-up.
At 26 years old, Nagbe is around the peak of his career, but in order to make the most of the best years of his footballing days he needs to get the hell out of the MLS.
This past week, Nagbe was on hand in Scotland to watch Celtic take on FC Barcelona in the midweek Champions League match. No, Darlington Nagbe isn’t going to play for Barcelona, but it seems that Brendan Rodgers and Celtic are interested in the Timbers’ crafty CAM.
His potential move to Celtic Park would definitely put a struggling Timbers side into a deeper hole after failing to qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs with him, but who gives a damn about the Timbers besides Portland fans? And in all honesty, this could positively impact US Soccer.
If players see the MLS poster boy like, Darlington Nagbe, saying deuces to the league, more players of higher quality will seek more competitive opportunities abroad. Let’s face it, the MLS is really just bringing in more players on the cusp of retirement, minus Sebastian Giovinco.
Better players seeking chances in better leagues means a higher level of play and would allow Bruce Arena (if he’s not a halfwit) to have a superior selection for the USMNT and wouldn’t have to rely on the likes of Michael Bradley and Jermaine Jones to get a result.
Guardiola wouldn't be able to win games with Bradley and Jones in the same midfield so keep blaming Jurgen 👏🏻

Maybe, just maybe, Nagbe will see what an opportunity this is to be able to play in the Champions League, play with Moussa Dembele, and play at home at Celtic Park. Unfortunately, some people think otherwise…

For the love of the USMNT and US Soccer, please join Celtic and help this country progress as a soccer-playing nation, Darlington Nagbe; encourage others to seek more competitive football in order to make the national side at least semi respectable.
