The kids are alright

This season has almost seen the ushering in of a new era of talent in Europe, the likes of AS Monaco and Ajax are hitting the headlines for their great runs in the two European competitions but all around the continent there feels like there’s a new wave of youth on the rise.

From top goalscorers to amazing goalkeepers, the next generation of footballing talents seems to be as exciting as the last.

Kylian Mbappe’s run of goals in 2017 that will presumably lead Monaco to their first French title in 17 years, as well as their first UEFA Champions League semi-final in 13 set him apart as one of the most sought after strikers in the world right now, despite being the spritely 18-years-old.

Outside of individual accolades, some younger players go rather unnoticed when the end of season awards roll around, so here is a compiled list of Europe’s Under 21 Team of the Season.

There are a few players that miss out, both Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford and Celtic’s Moussa Dembele would presumably have made it in other years, Rashford has had another strong end to his season whilst Dembele’s goals may land the Glasgow side an unbeaten domestic treble.

However, such is the strength of this season’s crop of youngsters that it’s a struggle to fit everyone in, quite simply, it’s an exciting time to be a football fan.
