Manchester United star ruled out of final with freak injury

Footballers do ill-advised things number 456, involves Manchester United’s Guillermo Varela, with the defender having been sent home by German outfit, Eintracht Frankfurt, the club the Uruguayan was on loan at.

An infected tattoo is the reason why the right-back’s time with the Bundesliga side has come to an early end, days before the German Cup final, where Frankfurt are going toe-to-toe with Borussia Dortmund.

“With this action, Guillermo’s time at Frankfurt is over.”

Fredi Bobic, board representative for the Bundesliga

Frankfurt had been considering extending the loan of the former Peñarol defender, but the moronic decision to get a tattoo, so close to arguably the biggest game of his career, has proved costly.

The amusing thing is, Varela was told he’d need further appointments to complete the whole tattoo – so the question as to why the defender couldn’t wait another week and then spend the whole 11 weeks before the new Bundesliga season starts, getting his ink.

Jose Mourinho is fully expected to go on another record-breaking spending spree this summer, having been unable to get the Red Devils anywhere near the Premier League title, despite United’s eye-watering receipts from the summer.

The transfer rumours, Varela’s misdemeanour and Antonio Valencia’s ability to lay claim to being Manchester United’s player of the season, mean that the lad from Montevideo will struggle to ever pull on the Red Devils shirt again.
