WATCH: C9 Impact Humbles DIG Ssumday As The Original Korean Top Lane Carry Prevails

The original Korean carry top laner, Cloud9’s Jung “Impact” Eon-yeong reestablished a level of dominance within the NA LCS after getting the better of Team Dignitas’ Kim “Ssumday” Chan-ho.

The series between Cloud9 and Team Dignitas would go the distance as the Spring Split finalists recovered to take the series 2-1.

A crucial component to C9’s success last season, Impact’s abilities in the top lane have been largely overshadowed during the 2017 season, on account of his split play time with Jeon “Ray” Ji-won and the emergence of rival Korean talents within the region.

One such Korean talent, DIG’s Kim “Ssumday” Chan-ho had taken the Summer Split by the scruff of the neck leading up to the much anticipated fixture against Cloud9.

Flexing his muscles on hyper-carries such as Fiora and Renekton, Ssumday has blown away the majority of his top lane opposition, including Team SoloMid’s Kevin “Hauntzer” Yarnell:

Eager to stand his ground against the hurricane in the Dignitas top lane, Impact repeated the matchup played out during the TSM series, succeeding as Renekton against Ssumday’s formidable Fiora.

Such is the DIG top laner’s proficiency on the duelist, Impact experienced some discomfort in the early game. Careful not to lose his life repeatedly, a perfectly timed counter gank from Juan Arturo “Contractz” Garcia gave the C9 top laner the edge that he needed in the lane.

With his nose in front, Impact pressed home his advantage, solo-killing Ssumday in lane to humble the Dignitas star:

It may have taken an entire split for North America’s imported top laners to find their feet, but the Korean talents are now leading the pack.

The Summer Split appeared to have ushered in a new era of dominance, with the likes of Ssumday finding their feet in the North American region. Now considered to be the ‘old guard’, Impact is not ready to relinquish the ‘top die’ meme just yet, hoping to prove he still he is still the authority amongst Korean top laners.
