Vive la France: World Cup 2018 domination

It is quite possible that the last European Championship signalled an opportunity for a new team to emerge as the next international football power. Could this France XI be the one and dominate like Spain did?

While Germany won the last World Cup, with their young and talented squad finally realising potential, many thought that they could win the next few tournaments, however, Portugal threw a spanner in the works 12 months ago with their shock Euro 2016 victory, of course over France.

Since then, we have seen a number of possible challengers emerge with a clutch of talent and none more so than the France national team who boast arguably one of the strongest selection pools since they last won the World Cup in 1998.

Is this France XI one of the best yet?

With so much choice available, we have carefully considered below what would be the best France XI for the 2018 World Cup and beyond in a 4-2-3-1 formation. We know you’re intrigued to see who we have picked so have a scroll through below!

Well, how about that? When you think about the talent in that XI alone you can certainly make a case of France going all of the way next summer, if they’re all afforded the chance to play together. Perhaps the most impressive thing about the French national squad though is the considerable strength in depth.

From the back to front, we could easily have had Steve Mandanda, Alban Lafont Laurent Koscielny, Mamadou Sakho, Lucas Digne, Morgan Schneiderlin, NGolo Kante, Yohan Cabaye, Blaise Matuidi, Mousa Sissoko, Dmitri Payet, Kingsley Coman, Anthony Martial, the aforementioned Giroud, Kevin Gameiro, Ousemane Dembele and of course Moussa Dembele.

Essentially, that makes 25 (two over the allowed amount) and there is no doubt that this group of players is possibly the strongest we have seen. Assuming most of them at least are selected and they can all gel, there is no reason why they can’t go on to dominate on a global stage.
