Juventus full-back Dani Alves clearly isn’t keen on receiving a Christmas card from the Old Lady’s powers that be, with his latest comments on teammate, Paulo Dybala.
“Dybala will do great things in the future.
“But I think that for him to realise his full potential, to test himself, one day, I don’t know when, he’ll have to leave Juventus.”
Dani Alves speaking to Canais Esporte Interativo
The Argentine striker has been tipped to be the next ‘footballer of his generation’ when Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo eventually slow down – they will slow down one day, right? – but you’d imagine Barcelona’s Neymar will have something to say about that.
Dybala has long been linked with La Liga’s two giants, as the heir to the throne of either his international teammate or wantaway CR7. However, do we have another case of a footballer living of a reputation built up in his earlier days?
10 assists and 13 goals in his final season for Palermo was enough for Juve to justify spending €32million on Dybala. And a debut season in Turin of 19 Serie A goals looked like money well spent. However, the most recent campaign saw Dybala just scrap into double figures with 11 goals in the league.
If Juventus were going to overcome Real Madrid in the Champions League Final, then Dybala was going to have to justify the social media hype around him.
Sadly for the Old Lady, Dybala failed to make any sort of impact in Cardiff, as Massimiliano Allegri’s decision to field Gonzalo Higuain and Mario Mandžukić as well as the Argentine suffocating the former Instituto player.
If Alves believes so strongly in a player he regularly trains with, then it’s time for Juve to fully commit to Dybala and mould their team – and future – around him.
