Rickie Fowler gave an emotional press conference.

“What a great experience,” said Matsuyama, who is ranked 19th in the world. “Rickie opened the door for me, and I was able to walk through it.”

This is only the second PGA TOUR win for the 23-year-old Japanese golfer. He kept his cool after a four-hole playoff session to better Rickie’s bogey with an easy two putt for par. The two players both made clutch putts on the final hole of the regulation round, but it was Matsuyama who kept pushing Rickie in the hour long battle that followed.

“This one hurts,” Fowler said. “I felt like I had it.”

It was always Rickie’s to lose and he made all the mistakes at the wrong time. Ultimately the American lost to some impressive ball striking that led the the way all week.

Rickie has four PGA TOUR wins to his name and was clearly gutted he couldn’t make that five. He gave this very emotional post-tournament interview.
