When professionals land in greenside bunkers, they normally aim straight for the pin or aim for the edge of the fringe, which then rolls inches away from the hole. When average golfers make it into a bunker, the thoughts are to make it out, not about where it’s going.

To onlookers it may have seemed like Bubba was acting like a “normal” golfer, because his bunker shot went way left of the pin. But that’s where he was aiming.. he wasn’t aiming for the hole at all. What this tells you is that not only is this hole truly difficult, but it is scaring the crap out of professional golfers. There is probably some crazy break coming from that direction and it would be much easier to putt sideways than down or upwards. He won this tournament in 2014, so maybe he knows what he’s doing.

The shot may look awful, but in reality, Bubba is just playing it safe.
