Smylie Kaufman did not leave the Masters without a sweet prize of his own

SEE ALSO: Smylie Kaufman, golf’s newest renegade, is unbelievable

Now this is exactly why Smylie Kaufman’s our favorite new face to take on Augusta National. Despite ruining his chances at bringing home the Claret Jug with a 10-over par on the first day, it’s like all the guy ever does is win anyway. After a revealing conversation with Jim Nantz, Smylie found himself the proud owner of a brand new 2016 Nissan Murano  provided on the house by Nissan itself. How many of us can magic a spanking new ride out of a heart-to-heart?

You must be wondering about the revelations about Smylie that must have sparked this unexpected gift from one of the world’s leading car manufacturers. We’re sorry to disappoint if you were hoping he’d come clean about a second head. He confessed to nothing more outrageous than the fact that he still lived at home with his parents and drove a 2008 Nissan Murano. Not exactly the kind of arrangement you’d think a guy who banked $2 million this season would still be going with. But then again, that’s exactly why we love him, no?

Smylie Kaufman is exactly the kind of protagonist golf’s new generation of enthusiasts needs. He’s got an infectiously sunny moniker that you won’t get out of your head once you hear it. He’s more of a Chick Fil-A kind of dude than a Type-A kelp smoothie-quaffing go-getter. Let’s face it, no matter how much you covet those perfect Rory abs, you totally are too. And to prove it, Kaufman’s inspired the guiltiest of guilty pleasures: the Smylie burger, an artery clogging concoction of burger stuffed with mac-and-cheese and slathered copiously with BBQ sauce. Shameless self-indulgence, eat your heart out and don’t you dare apologize for it.

And well, he turns something that doesn’t feel half as awesome into something you have nothing to be ashamed of. If you’re also a 21-year old living at home with your parents and driving an old car (though 2008’s not that old), just know that a guy who got into Augusta National is in the same boat as you and managed to get a new car out of that.
