Bryson DeChambeau, winner of the the NCAA and US Amateur Championships, as well as coming in as low amateur at the Masters, has finally turned professional. The Physics major is a hugely promising prospect for American golf.
“Bryson shares in our mission of game enjoyment and our desire to grow the game and make it more fun and inclusive for golfers of all levels,” said Robert Philion, president and CEO of Cobra Puma Golf.
Bryson will join young bloods Lexi Thompson and Rickie Fowler as he starts his professional career with Cobra clubs. Some have said this provides a golden opportunity for the manufacturer as Bryson’s “science nerd” reputation is a club brand’s wet dream. It’s not certain how much the 23-year-old will be taking home, but if you consider he counts Bridgestone amongst his sponsors you know it’s going to be a large sum.
Fowler’s off-course income totalled $9 million in 2015 and it wouldn’t surprise me if Bryson DeChambeau was too far behind, he’s pretty hot shit in the golfing world at the moment. Fellow professional Chris Paisley described him as “quite possibly the most impressive player I have ever seen,” after watching him shoot 64 in Abu Dhabi.
The Physics major is reported to float every golf ball he uses in an Epsom salt solution to determine each ball’s centre of gravity.
He might be one of the weirdest guys in golf, but there is definitely a reason for the shit storm he is creating. The man has style, panache, a certain je ne sais quoi, people like Bryson aren’t in abundance on the PGA TOUR. Oh and btw he doesn’t do a bad Carl Speckler impression.
