4 reasons why Henrik Stenson is the coolest cat to ever win an Open Championship

Yesterday Henrik Stenson was one of the “greatest players to never to win a major”, today he leaves that club with the Claret Jug in hand. Nicknamed ‘The Iceman,’ Henirk has never really ‘lost’ a major in the choke sense of the word – hence the name – he’s been beaten by strong final rounds in all 9 of his top-ten finishes.

It was well overdue for the 40-year-old, who has been ranked inside the world’s top-ten for 100 weeks. Henrik is classy, charismatic and equipped with wit so laconic it would cut a diamond. I reckon he’s the smoothest operator to ever win an Open Championship. Here’s why.

1. He destroys his equipment like a boss (ok it’s not big and it’s not clever, but it’s comedy)

2. You can’t put a price on natural panache

3. He’ll do whatever it takes to get that shot

4. He’s one of the funniest guys on tour…

Last year he was asked about his chances of winning the Tour Championship, he replied in classic Stenson fashion. The Iceman asssessed his three biggest threats – Jason Day, Jordan Spieth and Rory McIloy.

Henrik Stenson just gave hope to the likes of Sergio Garcia and Lee Westwood. You can win multiple tournaments all over the world, but you’re always denied access to golf’s elite if you don’t win a major. Fortunately Stenson crossed the line and got the monkey off his back, proving that golf has never been more competitive. Congrats to the big Swede, may it be the first of many.
