18 month’s ago Gareth Lord made a deal with his boss. The looper said he would quit smoking if the big Swede won a major. And that deal has now come to fruition.
On Sunday, Stenson didn’t take long to remind Lord about the wager. His bagman lit up a cigarette while they were walking down the 7th fairway. “You better enjoy that,” quipped the Swede, who was tied with Mickelson at 14 under. Lord had until midnight on Sunday to pay up, no doubt his £150,000 bonus will ease the nicotine withdrawals. According to Forces, Lord is now the world’s 4th highest earning caddie, which isn’t surprising when you remember Henrik’s 2013 season pocketed him $2 million.
Lord started working for Henrik in 2002, taking over from Fanny Sunesson when she retired.
