Rickie Fowler misses Ryder Cup qualification by inches

Rickie Fowler had the chance to snatch up the 8th spot on the Ryder Cup team, but fell short at The Barclays.

Fowler was on top of the leaderboard for most of the weekend, right beside eventual winner Patrick Reed. All he needed to do to bump Zach Johnson out of the 8th spot was come in solo 3rd.

For a while there, it looked like he might edge out Reed, but the Sunday jitters raged through his putter and he faltered away his opportunity. Fowler ended up tied for 7th place, much farther down the leaderboard than anticipated.

Now, he’ll have to wait and see if he will receive one out of Davis Love III’s four captains picks.

“It’s not for me to worry about right now. I’ve just got to go out and get ready to play next week. Coming off a win there last year, I feel like I’m in a good spot. I played great this week, and I’m not worried about my resumé or anything like that. I’ve just got to continue to work on the game, continue getting better.”

Rickie played phenomenal golf this weekend and he’s been on the team before. Hopefully the captains recognize his heart and quality, and choose him to join the Ryder Cup crew.
