Johnny Miller idiotically gives European Ryder Cup team bulletin board material

Johnny Miller’s favorite (giant) talking head, Johnny Miller, decided to give the European Ryder Cup team some motivational fodder ahead of the showdown at Hazeltine.

Here’s what Miller had to say; highlighting the relative lack of experience of the European side.

”I do believe the Euros have got, at least on paper, the worst team they’ve had in many years,” Miller said Saturday at the Tour Championship. I just think with all those rookies … when you lose (Ian) Poulter, it’s like tearing your heart out…I think this is the year not only could the U.S. win, they could win by like five points.”

Five points!

Johnny. Johnny. Johnny. Europe has kicked the Americans’ collective ass in recent competitions, winning six of the last seven cups and nine of the last 11. While it is true that the Euros have fielded a squad with five rookies and are playing a road game, why poke such a formidable bear?

He also refuted captain Davis Love III’s suggestion that the U.S. side was the best ever assembled.

What a patriot! Who knew Johnny would step up to play the part of Ivan Drago to Apollo Creed?

And by the way, did you know he shot 63 at Oakmont?

Rory McIlroy swiped back with a peach of a putdown. Asked what he thought about Love’s suggestion that this was America’s best ever team, the four-time major winner cracked a smile and delivered a clever rebuttal:

“Definitely assembled the best task force ever, that’s for sure,”
McIlroy told Golf Channel. “Look, it’s a great team. They have a lot of very talented players in there. They’re obviously quite confident. So you know what, it’s up to us to go there and try to upset the odds.”
