WATCH: Rory McIlroy gets wet after completely falling apart in Dubai

Rory McIlroy is defending his title for the Race To Dubai at the DP World Tour Championship this week and he’s not off to a great start.

As you can see here, he had a tough opening round, getting stuck in some wet muck by the green of the 16th hole.

Rory made four bogeys before even making it to the 16th, where he ended with a double bogey. The two birdies he did make did not help salvage this round for him.

In a field of 60 European Tour players, McIlroy is currently placed at No. 55.

For McIlroy to win the Race to Dubai, The European Tour says that he needs to win with Stenson finishing outside the top 45, Willett outside the top five and Noren outside the top two.

It’s very unlikely that Stenson will post a score that will get him outside the top 45, but you never know. What we do know is that Rory opted out of the Turkish Airlines Open, which could have helped his standings, because of his nonchalant attitude towards the race.

“The fact I’ve won the FedEx Cup this year, won the Race to Dubai before, made the decision a little easier.”

It seems as though McIlroy is losing the passion that made him one of the most liked golfers on Tour. If he’s not even trying, he shouldn’t win. Even though Jordan Spieth and Tiger Woods are Americans, you know that they would never have this attitude towards a tournament that supports their country.

Rory has downplayed the European Tour, withdrawn from the Olympics, and said that it wasn’t his responsibility to grow the game. It’s really a shame that he won the FedEx Cup because it clearly has only fed his ego.

As my English coworker would say, he’s been a complete bellend this season. Rory needs to get his act together or he’ll get stuck in more muck than he can chip his way out of.
