Bernhard Langer is at the center of an absurd Donald Trump story

President Donald Trump continues to put forth the entirely unsubstantiated claim the three-to-five million people voted illegally during the 2016 election. And The Donald, golfing enthusiast that he is, is drawing on a golf(er)-related story to bolster his point.

The only trouble? Much like the widespread voter fraud: It didn’t happen.

In a meeting with House and Senate leaders, Trump said, according to the New York Times, that his “friend” the “very famous golfer, Bernhard Langer” witnessed voter fraud. The 59-year-old German, according to Trump, was standing in line at his polling place in Florida on Election Day, when an official told him he would not be able to vote.

Now, this did not happen, as Bernhard Langer is not even a U.S. citizen, but the story gets even better.

Surrounding Langer in line in this work of Trumpian fiction were Hispanic-looking voters who didn’t look like they ought to be able to vote, according to Trump. Because, of course, anyone from a Latin American country in Florida is there illegally…right? Good grief, Charlie Brown.

And of course, as the antagonists in this story (along with the election official) they were allowed to vote (presumably for Hillary Clinton).

Reached for comment, Langer’s daughter confirmed that Langer does not vote in the U.S. and is not a friend of Donald Trump.

So where did this outrageous, racist episode really take place? Only beneath the glorious head of hair you see below, it seems.
