The unimaginable: Golfer shot on California course

It goes without saying that when you lace up your golf spikes and head to the first tee, you don’t expect to get shot. Hit shots? Yes. Get shot? No.

Unfortunately, that’s exactly what happened to a California man teeing it up at Hemet Golf Club on Wednesday. According to a report from The Press Enterprise, a 47-year-old man was golfing at the aforementioned course, which is a located at the Four Seasons of Hemet.

After hearing scattered gunfire coming from the surrounding hills throughout his round, the unnamed man was hit in the leg with a bullet around 6 p.m and taken to a local hospital. While he’s “expected to survive,” there’s no word on the severity of his injury. Given the report, the assumption is it’s closer to a shin grazed by a bullet than a direct hit to the thigh, but it’s unclear.

The Riverside County sheriff’s department searched the area for the shooter—even bringing in a helicopter to surveil the nearby mountains. However, they were unable to find the imprudent target shooter.

While getting shot is, quite obviously, never a laughing matter, here’s a theory of the crime: the gentlemen who hit with stray bullet was 47. He was playing golf at the 55-and-older community. Perhaps one of the resident geriatrics took exception to his presence on their turf and decided to snipe him?

But really, you have to hope for a full recovery for the golfer in question and that the injury is as non-serious as it sounds like it could be. Assuming the man was shot unintentionally, you have to hope the idiot emptying his clip near a golf course is arrested and dealt with appropriately.
