I Am Zlatan to remain King of Manchester

Zlatan Ibrahimovic could be set for a return to Old Trafford, after Jose Mourinho revealed in his usual dreary, uninteresting press conferences that talks are ongoing with the Swede.

“He wants football at the highest level. We are having conversations about him staying for the second half of the season.”

The former AC Milan striker – who had actually been linked with a return to the San Siro despite his injury – delivered in terms of goals and bravado. However, the more astute of those within the footballing world would’ve realised that the Swedish icon’s influence within the Red Devils’ line-up was one more of missed chance after missed chance.

Therefore, it’s quite fitting that Ibrahimovic has been replaced by a younger – yet equally wasteful – player in Romelu Lukaku. However, Lukaku doesn’t carry that ‘big game player’ mentality that Ibrahimovic has throughout his career.

United do need a supporting cast for their Belgium international, though. And with Marcus Rashford set to spend another season frustrated out on the wing, and Anthony Martial will forever be ostracised by Jose Mourinho.

The thing about the whole Zlatan Ibrahimovic Manchester United second-year deal is that this time around, the former Paris Saint-Germain forward is exactly what the Red Devils need.

Last year, though, he never should’ve been the main man, but you can decide whether that was the fault of Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford or whether Mourinho got his transfer window wrong.

Mourinho also confirmed he’s looking for someone on the wings, but whether that’s a full-back or a winger, remains to be seen. Although the smart money goes on it being a left-back, with Luke Shaw last seen crying whilst walking through the McDonald’s drive-thru.
