European heavyweights, G2 Esports announced today that it has completed a successful round of funding for the organisation, with headline investors including FC Barcelona midfielder André Gomes.

G2 will not be disclosing the exact amount invested in the organisation for initial growth capital, but it detailed that it plans to use the funding to expand its talent development infrastructure, as well as strengthen its content and brand initiatives.

G2 eSports latest investors stemmed from a range of backgrounds, including football (soccer), finance, and entertainment. André Gomes, one of Barcelona’s most prominent football players for the 2017/18 is perhaps the most notable of the names on the list:

“eSports is the next generation of sports and League of Legends is its cornerstone. I couldn’t be more thrilled to invest in and partner with G2 eSports.”

Joining Gomes is MACRO Ventures, a media company with a focus on the multicultural market, Everblue Management, an investment firm, and Marc Lemann’s Go4It; a Brazilian-based sports investment firm.

“With this group, we are confident that we can continue on our growth path, build world-class teams, and create cutting-edge content.”

“G2 is thrilled to bring partners on board that are both passionate about eSports and committed to our global growth.”
