Who Are Mayweather & McGregor’s Football Club Doppelgangers?

The time for talk is nearly over, and the biggest combat sports fight of our lifetime is almost upon us. What better way to usher in one of sports greatest ever spectacles than an arbitrary set of football club doppelgangers?

The beautiful game remains the biggest sport in the world and as such, it should mesh quite nicely with two of the most recognisable names in the media right now.

On Saturday, in Las Vegas, Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather will square off as the Irishman attempts to pull off one of the biggest surprises in sporting history.

Both men have displayed a series of traits that mimic our selected teams, and we’re confident that these are the most suitable selections when it comes to their footballing twins. Oh, and yes, money is likely going to be a central theme here as you can imagine.

Floyd Mayweather Real Madrid

Real Madrid is the juggernaut of professional football and not even Manchester United come close to that position. They’ve won countless European Cups, controlled La Liga for the better part of their entire existence and continue to reign over everyone else with flawless ease.

Sound familiar? In turn, Mayweather lives, eats and breathes success and his undefeated record lines up well with Madrid’s dominance. Both parties are hated by their contenders, who would love nothing more than to see them be knocked off their perch, and they have money coming out of their ears. This stuff writes itself.

Conor McGregor Liverpool

When you take a stroll through the streets of Merseyside up to Anfield, you wouldn’t think there was a football stadium lurking around the next corner. The surrounding areas show what kind of demographic the Reds represent, with the Scousers forever being touted as the loud-mouthed underdogs who always seem to prove people wrong.

Conor, on the other hand, came up through the rough streets of Crumlin and managed to transform himself into a household name – just like LFC. Both Conor and the five-time Champions of Europe have plenty of money, but it’s their overriding passion and desire for the business that they’re in that keeps them going.

Real represent Goliath and Liverpool most certainly represent David, which is one of the reasons why it’s such an apt comparison as we head into the big showdown on August 26th.

McGregor certainly has more than enough in his arsenal to make you believe that he can pull off the upset and his track record speaks for itself, which is what makes this whole ordeal so very intoxicating for the fans.

Whilst logic tells us that Real Madrid would crush Liverpool in the current climate, much like Mayweather is expected to crush McGregor, the magic of Istanbul 2005 could soon be recreated in Las Vegas 2017.
