Wanna know more about Brooks Kopeka? Just ask his girlfriend

Before the 2017 U.S. Open, Brooks Koepka had won just one PGA Tour event and had just seven professional wins. Then his life changed dramatically when he captured the U.S. Open. Now Koepka is not some young phenom who we “expected to win all a long”, but he is now another young face – at 27-years-young – that you can look for to be the favorites on Sunday afternoons.

His golf life may have magnified by 100, but Koepka is about as cool as it gets when it comes to wielding an iron in his hands. He’s so calm and collected that he was talking about vacations with his caddy while on the back nine on Sunday at this year’s U.S. Open.

One might say Koepka has a fulfilled life now that he has a Major championship to his credit. His purse for 2017 is over $5 million, he is exempt in the U.S. Open for the next 10 years (five for the rest of the majors), and of course, he has the beautiful Jena Sims by his side.

Just don’t ask Joe Buck to tell you who she is:

FOX Sports announcer Joe Buck was given some faulty information when trying to identify Koepka’s girlfriend after he walked off the 18th green of the U.S. Open. Sims was waiting for Koepka but was identified as Becky Edwards (an ex-girlfriend).

Luckily for Buck and Koepka, Sims has a great sense of humor when to comes to that:

“My phone LIT up,” Sims told Golf Digest. “It was half like, ‘Congratulations to Brooks!’ And the other half were, ‘Did you hear what happened?’ And I was like, of course I did. It was immediate. I was like, It’s OK, life continues. We’re just fine. It was an honest mistake.”

It has been confirmed that Koepka and Buck have met since the U.S. Open and as expected there were zero hard feelings about the mix-up.

Not many people get to look into the world of Brooks Koepka as well as Sims does. And she opened up in her interview with the golf magazine about some of the major champion’s best qualities off the course.

He doesn’t bring his work home with him

Koepka is a professional which could make it difficult for him not to talk about ‘work’ out of ‘the office’. But Koepka knows how to keep the two separated when he gets home.

“Yeah, we almost never talk about golf,” Sims said. “He’ll talk about it for a little bit, and he’ll stop himself and say, ‘OK, I’m done now.’ And that’ll be the end of it.”

Sometimes Brooks (as mentioned earlier) and other pros aren’t even talking about golf when they are actually playing in a tournament.

“Another thing that surprised me is how little the pros talk about golf when they’re in between shots. I think when you’re a fan and you’re watching them walk with their caddies or with another player, they’re just analyzing the course or their next shot. They’re really not. And you’d think they’re having a ton of fun in between shots. But honestly, they’re usually stressed out, and talking about something other than golf to get their mind off of it. Like another sport, or vacationing, or joking with each other. So that’s really something that surprised me.”

Brooks is a slick dresser

There are some people that can’t stand the feeling of wearing a stuffy dress shirt with a tie acting like a noose around their neck. This especially goes for athletes, whose everyday clothes are usually compression-based and comforting.

Koepka is a part of that lifestyle, but he also loves to get his suit-game on when the opportunity comes knocking at his door.

“Oh, here’s a good thing: He loooves to get dressed up. He would never admit it. But he doesn’t get too many opportunities to dress up, so when he does, he loves it. He loves wearing a suit. We went to the ESPYs together, and we went to a Rolex party recently, and he just felt so cool in his suit. You never think about that, because he’s always wearing his Nike gear.”

He’s got plenty of charm (and a great memory)

It’s one thing to have charm, but you can really ‘wow’ a pretty woman like Sims if you recall things about meeting her that really excited you – it also helps to be a professional athlete.

“We met at the 2015 Masters. And that’s so special because I’m from Georgia, so it’s perfect. We were on Hole 7, which I don’t even remember, but he’s like, ‘Oh, I remember what you were wearing, where we were standing, everything.’ It was cool. We hadn’t dated since then. We were just friends at that point.”

Take notes you eligible bachelors out there. Hit long drives, workout, win a major championship and then you can think about dating some actresses.
