Rejected: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has left Chelsea red-faced for Liverpool

In a late and shocking move, Arsenal midfielder, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, has snubbed a move to Chelsea after a £40 million move was agreed between the two London clubs.

With his contract expiring at the end of the season, the Ox has shown a clear desire to leave Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal for a bigger team.

However, it’s believed that the Blues may well have employed the lad as a wing-back, rather than in central midfield where he wants to play.

So, naturally, he rejected a move worth 40 million quid. Standard stuff. Who can blame him? However, this isn’t stopping the 24-year-old from trying to enforce a switch to somewhere else.

Liverpool look like favourites to earn Oxlade-Chamberlain’s signature before the transfer window shuts tomorrow. It’s thought that his previous playing days at Southampton have made the Liverpool board feel compelled to sign the bloke, because that’s what Liverpool do.

The England international has fitted in well at the Arsenal squad over the years but is acting like Arsenal midfielders like to do and trying to push through a move. Should Alexis Sanchez also leave and the deal with Manchester City to sign Raheem Sterling fall through, Arsenal will be left very much in the lurch.

Following a 4-0 trouncing at the hands of the Ox’s future club, it’s not the sort of news the Gunners need to hear. Perhaps it was that game, in fact, that inspired the lad’s desire to leave.

Or perhaps it was the painful experience of playing for Arsenal for six years.

Whatever has spurned the need for pastures new – and higher up the table – one thing is for sure; Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will not be playing at Arsenal next season. Whether he makes it to Liverpool in time or not is unclear, but he’s certainly on the way out. It’s time for Oxit, and there’s no going back on this one.

Who’s next to leave the Emirates?
