Luis Nani’s journey around the top flight European leagues continues

Luis Nani? Remember him? The knock-off Cristiano Ronaldo who could never be Cristiano Ronaldo. The bloke who has won everything from the Premier League to the Champions League by being surrounded by better players.

Well, in case you’d forgotten his whereabouts, he was last seen at the Mestalla playing for Valencia. However, following another campaign away from England, the 30-year-old has decided to up sticks to Italy; Lazio is the club of choice, with the Serie A side putting pen to paper this deadline day.

Facial hair and sunglasses inside aside, we can’t help and¬†question that there is something strange going on with Nani behind closed doors since his departure from Old Trafford.

Signs for Fenerbahçe after being shown the door out of Manchester Рa three-year deal seeming reasonable at the time Рonly for the Portuguese man to jump ship after just one year. Spain and Valencia was the next destination Рonce again a three-year deal on the table Рyet Nani decides to jump ship once more after just a year at the club.

It’s not even as if he had a bad season in La Liga; playing a part in 13 goals in 25 league games is a decent return for a player who cost in the region of ¬£7million… pennies in this market!¬†

Ah, but this is where the penny – quite literally – drops. Nani’s agent is¬†Jorge Mendes, meaning Mendes and his cronies are continuing the theme of using their ‘clients’/puppets to squeeze as much money out of the players in order to make their wallets as thick as possible.

Regular¬†transfers and regular contracts with different clubs is perfect: “let’s keep business ticking over, and move these guys around Europe as much as possible. For our boy, Nani, that’s the¬†Primeira Liga, Premier League,¬†S√ľper Lig, La Liga, and now Serie A ticked off… result”.

So before we start thinking Nani is the next Christopher Columbus, let’s remember who his agent is, and what financial reward a transfer brings to all parties involved.
